VGT/VNT turbo

VNT Turbo

The best distributors and suppliers today are increasingly trying to squeeze more power out of small engines. It is no longer uncommon to see 200 horsepower from a 1.0-litre four-cylinder engine. Such performance requires the introduction of new technologies in the production of the engines themselves, as well as in the supply of attachments. A well-known turbocharger manufacturer, Garrett, has developed a new turbine called the VNT turbo for sale.

Is VNT turbo good?

The main feature of this technology is the ability to change the inlet diameter as the speed of the exhaust gases changes. At low rpm, the compressor is set to a minimum inlet port, which gives more gas flow to the turbine and hence more pressure to the turbine. At high RPMs, the turbine expands the inlet to keep the compressor pressure at the same level. This technique protects the turbine from too high a rotor speed.

The data for changing the nozzle diameter is taken from the turbine pressure sensor or the engine control system. The first scheme uses a pressure valve, while the second uses a vacuum valve.

How is the VNT different from Turbocharger?

VNT and AVNT technology have many advantages:

  • By maintaining the same pressure level, maximum power is achieved over a large rpm range;
  • More torque at low rpm is achieved;
  • lower fuel consumption due to low engine output pressure;
  • Reduces toxic emissions into the atmosphere;
  • Efficient use of engine braking due to the smooth adjustment of turbocharger pressure;
  • no "turbo-pit" effect at low rpm.

The increased efficiency of the VNT turbocharger in the UK allows increasing the engine power and at the same time increasing the life of the turbine, but this technology is more complicated and if it is necessary to repair the cost will be many times higher than if the usual turbine without automatic regulation is replaced. In addition to the high cost, there are other disadvantages to this technology. Engines with such turbines are very difficult to tune. Simply increasing the boost will be very problematic, you will have to change the turbine to get a noticeable increase in power.

These peculiarities should be taken into account with the VNT turbo TD 5 or VNT turbo 300 DTI.

Does VNT turbo have a wastegate?

Almost all turbines fall into one of the turbine generations. For example, there are the following generations: variable-geometry turbocharger in Peterborough, turbines with a wastegate, turbines with variable nozzle configuration, which includes VNT turbo. The latest generation of modern turbines is electric models. If you want to buy one, we are ready to offer the best deal with the VNT turbo controller.

What controls a VNT Turbo?

When engine speed and exhaust flow rate are low, the VNT system narrows the turbocharger inlet, thereby increasing gas velocity and turbine pressure. At high engine speeds and high gas flow rates, VNT turbochargers in the United Kingdom will increase the inlet area, keeping the turbocharger boost at the required level, protecting the turbine rotor from Overspeed.

What is a VNT actuator?

An actuator, or wastegate, has a protective function. Actuators work on a simple principle: in the presence of excess pressure, the flap or valve opens and the excess air does not get into the mechanisms of the turbine/engine, and through special channels is diverted, bypassing them, not allowing the turbine to spin more than a certain number of revolutions.
